sy-dep-epc-hpc SPS North Area General

The North Area beams H2, H4, H6, H8, P42, K12 and M2 are produced by a high-intensity primary proton beam, impinging on each of the three primary targets T2, T4 or T6. The ‘useful’ particles are picked up by the beam lines and are transported to the user areas. These beam lines are long (from about 500 to almost 1200 meters) and complex. It contain a large number of elements of different natures, such as targets, magnets, collimators, dumps, absorbers, converters, detectors, vacuum pumps and access doors.

The H2 beam line is a high-energy, high-resolution secondary beam suitable for both experiments and tests. The maximum momentum is 400 GeV/c.

The H4 beam line is a high-energy, high-resolution general purpose beam suitable for both experiments and tests. The maximum momentum is 400 GeV/c.

The H6 beam line is a high-energy, high-resolution general purpose beam suitable for both experiments and tests. The maximum momentum is 205 GeV/c.

The H8 beam line is a high-energy, high-resolution general purpose beam suitable for both experiments and tests. The maximum momentum is 400 GeV/c.

The M2 beam line is the CERN high-intensity muon beam. The maximum momentum is 280 GeV/c.

The P42 beam is a transport system for primary proton beams from P4 to the T10 target. The K12 beam consists of simultaneous KL and KS beams coinciding at the NA62 experiment. The maximum momentum is 400 GeV/c.

SY-EPC-HPC is responsible of all power converters of the 7 North area beam lines.
